About
I was born in the beautiful old town of Faversham in Kent. I have painted and drawn for most of my life.
My paintings are developed from emotions charged by the natural world. I am inspired by the wonderful light, drama and abstract shapes that occur naturally outside. Painting is a very physical activity and it is difficult to try to realise nature's beauty by translating it into paint on canvas. I am influenced by Constable, Turner and the Impressionists, as well as my own father, as their paintings epitomise beauty, light and the power nature has upon man, which I strive to achieve. I love to paint outdoors when possible, or in my studio, where I feel the presence of my father with me. It was he who initially taught me to really observe the magical natural world and its relationship with man. I find it humbling to realise that whatever man does within nature, it is transitory and nature continues, almost unaffected by our existence.
